For some, the night represents a feeling of being lost and not seeing a way out. The mind goes back and forth trying to figure out what happened? We tell ourselves “Maybe if I do this or maybe if I try that, it will make things right”. It seems like we can’t stop thinking about what happened or what may happen, no matter how hard we try. We talk to God and tell him “Lord I’m just going to place this in your hands” we plea with him, we bargain with him, but within a few minutes we are back trying to figure out what to do. What Can I do to bring me out of this? Tears soon began to pour down our face and we feel so alone, so helpless.
When David was in a cave hiding from Saul, he told God “I will take refuge in the shadow of your wings until the disaster has passed, Psalms 57:1”. David had been fully submitted to Saul, but now he found himself on the run for his life from this same man. I can imagine his mind was bombarded with thoughts of what went wrong, what happened or what did he need to do to fix things? However, regardless of how many thoughts entered his mind David knew that there was only one thing that he could truly do to fix his situation, and that was to get into the presence of God and stay there until the disaster past.
He had to get to that place where he was fully dependent upon God, fully relying on God and fully trusting in him. He realized that he was lost without God. The battle was too big for him to handle alone. But with God there was hope, with God there was an answer, with God there was a way out. David said “until the disaster passed” in other words he was saying “God I know you are going to bring me out of this!” this too shall pass. It may seem dark right now, and I may be running for my life, But God I know you are going to bring me out, I know you are going to fix this.
David had to stay focus on God. He had to remind himself of God’s power and God’s love. He worshiped God in the midst of what he was going through. This too, is what we have to do. Those night hours can sometimes seem like it’s lasting forever. But we have to get to that place where we see God more than we see our problem. We have to remind ourselves that God is faithful, and even though things may not be looking the way we desire, we are still going to trust him.
David had to hide in a dark cave that was probably stinking and full of bugs, yet he still trusted God, he still worshiped God. You have to know without a doubt that this disaster is going to pass, because God is working it out. God is on your side. Who can stand against him? God is fighting your battle. God is making wrong things right. We have to remind ourselves of who God is and what he has said. Grab hold of his word and hold tight to it because God said in Isaiah 55:11 “so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.” God said his word will not return to him void. Grab hold of what he said and speak it over your situation.
Hang on, Your night is almost over. You’re almost out. I know you may be tired, But hang in there. Don’t give up yet. Someway and somehow God is going to turn your situation around and bring you out. Don’t give up on him yet. Many have missed their breakthrough, their deliverance, their healing, their answer because they did not wait on him. Don’t give up, God’s got this. He sees you and he knows exactly how to handle your situation. I love you and God bless!
