Daily Devotional | Lord, I Will Keep My Eyes On You.

O our God, will you not judge them? for we have no might against this great company that comes against us; neither know we what to do: but our eyes are on you.  2 Chronicles 20:12

Jehoshaphat found himself in a situation where he did not know what to do.

I can imagine that the news spread quickly among his people, that they would soon be under the attack of the Moab, Ammon and Mount Se´ir army.

How would they stand up against them?  They were out numbered, they did not have enough weapons, they had no plan-What would they do?

Can you imagine the thoughts and emotions that King Jehoshaphat had to deal with? We would think that he would have packed up and quickly abandoned the place, but that’s not what he did.

Instead he called on his God.

He acknowledged to God “We don’t know what to do”, but what made this prayer so powerful is that in spite of not knowing what to do, or how God was going to work it out, he knew that God would work it out.

It didn’t matter to him how God was going to do it, as long as he did it.

He knew that God was able to deliver.  He knew that God was able to fix it, he knew that God was able to solve it.  He knew that God was the only one who could bring him out of that situation.  That’s why he said God our eyes are on you.

This is what you too must do when you are faced with situations that you do not know what to do.

You have to fix your eyes on God.  Don’t continuously look at what someone is doing to you or what they may be saying about you.  Don’t focus on you losing this or losing that or how are you going to live, or how are you going to survive.  God has given you promises in his word, so it’s imperative that you focus on his word.

You have to remember that you serve a God who promised to go out before you and to make your pathway straight.

He promised that he would turn the darkness into light before you and make the rough places smooth.  He promised that when you pass through the waters, He will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow you: and when you walk through the fire, you shalt not be burned.

Jehoshaphat took God at his word.

He knew that God was able to turn any situation around.  “we don’t know what to do, but our eyes are on you” This is the attitude that you have to have.

Trouble will still come, sickness and pain will still come, trials and tribulations will still come but when it does come, you must set your eyes on God.

 You must remember his word.

 You must remember his promise.

I’m not going to waste my time looking at what my enemy is doing when I know what my God can do.  I don’t know about you, but it drains my energy when I spend my day looking at the things that could go wrong.  But when I focus on God, I find the strength to speak life over my situation. I find the strength to encourage myself.  I feel myself being renewed and strengthened as I wait on God and keep my eyes on him.

God has never failed me and this is what Jehoshaphat knew-that God would not fail him.

What are your eyes fixed on?  Are your eyes on your problems or are they on God?  Are your eyes on the people talking about you or are they on God?  Are you eyes on the bad news from your doctor or are your eyes on God?

What are your eyes fixed on?

As I stated earlier, problems will come, trouble will come but with all of your might try as hard as you can to keep your eyes on God.  He will not fail you.

Heavenly Father, I pray for all of those who reads this, that you will grant them the strength to keep their eyes on you.  Hear their cry “I don’t know what to do Father” and show them the way God.  Go before them as you said you would in your word.  Make their paths straight.  Bring them out with your mighty hand and let them know You are God.  You are their God that hears, their God that delivers, their God that makes ways out of no way.  You are God and God alone.  We love you, we worship you, we praise you and we wait upon you.  We thank you Father, in Jesus name we pray Amen.

From my heart to yours I ask that you please share this message.  I know there is someone out there who needs to read it and please share a word of encouragement in the comment section below for other who read this post.  God bless and Thank you!

This story of Jehoshaphat has always been one of my favorites! This post is nicely written. I especially love what you said about not wasting our time on focusing on what our enemy is doing, but instead on what God CAN do! Amen!
